Yes. WinCo gives an employee 3 points for calling sick, and 2 points for leaving early sick or clocking in more than 2 minutes late.
They are allowed up to 8 points in 3 months, and 14 in 12 months. Any more, and the employee is written up. If they call in or are late one more time before points drop off, they are suspended for 3 days. If they are sick or late again before points drop off, their employment is terminated.
The points that accumulate over the 3 month period drop off when they are 3 months old, but they remain on the record for the 12 month time. It's that 12-month period that gets most of them in trouble.
FMLA doesn't always cover being sick. An employee has to have worked there for a minimum of 12 months, and even so, there is a lot of red tape involved such as signing for a certified letter, having a doctor fill out paperwork, and getting it faxed to the General Office by the deadline (which they conveniently make very short).
