Bring up Windows Defender. There is a section in it that shows all the background applications running.

Disable Windows Firewall Temporarily. Disable/Remove Add Blocker. Uninstall Add Blocker From Your System.
You can use MSconfig or the Services tab of Windows Defender. You can do the above, but this is a question from a text book and the desired answer is Software Explorer.
You actually can not temporarily disable an expansion pack, but you can uninstall it. I only recommend it if you have the DvD download for it.
