# Put a see through separator in their cage with one gerbil on each side # switch them twice daily so they can get used to each other's scent # Let them run around together in an open space # If one is aggressive put them in the separator again # Finally you can take out the separator and see how they react to each other # # Give them treats when they look at each other and show no aggressive behavior

# Separate the gerbils!!! This is very important so they will not fight again!! Put them in separate areas if possible If not, put a screen of some sort in the middle of the cage and put one gerbil on each side of the cage. Make sure you use a see-through material so the gerbils can interact with each other

# with your other gerbils, put one in each side.

# after you put them in the screen, let them observe each other. If they are frightened, gently stroke them or give them treats.

# Switch the fighting gerbils twice or three times daily. keep the non- fighting gerbils in the same spot, or switch the accessories If you do not provide the non-fighting gerbils with their favorite toys and accessories that were on both sides of the original cage, this could turn into another fight. You could also switch the non- fighting gerbils 4 times daily. I find it easier to switch the accessories

# Put the fighting gerbils together in an area where they do not have to be in close proximity to each other. You could put them in their little running balls, or just a bed room or other large enclosed space. Make sure that your gerbils cannot get out of the space!

# Sit on the floor and give your gerbils treats.

# After you think your gerbils are starting to warm up to each other, remove the cage separator.

# Be nearby your gerbils for the first couple of days in case more fights break out.

# If they fight again, separate them again but for longer and let them sniff each other through the screen.

Either just move them away from each other, or keep trying but try to put them both in a new home because one could not like the other coming into it's house. Gerbil pairs should be brother or sister.

There is some advise one of my best friends gave me.

My gerbils were fighting but I put them into a small box together for about ten minutes.

I also put them into the same excersise ball.

Now they have stopped fighting.

But this is something that I would also try in later life it I ever get another gerbil.

If you have the right sort of cage you could put a barredbarrier in the middle of it.

Then put one gerbil on one side and one gerbil on the other.

This way they will be able to see and smell each other but not make any contact.

Every few hours change sides so they will smelleachothers scent on stuff.

After about three days try them without the barrier.

If they fight put the barrier back in and do the same thing over again.

If they don't.

You will not need the barrier any more and you will have two happy gerbils.

Well to keep your gerbils from fighting you might want to buy a little blue plastic tank, they're available at PetSmart for $4.99 and if you hear a squeak or them standing up you might want to separate them quickly leave one in the normal cage and put the other one in the blue tank but put food and a house with bedding in the blue tank and make sure some is in the cage too and water in both of them and if they fight again separate them quickly or one may kill the other. PS. If this doesn't work put them in a small box together for about five minutes or so; this worked for my gerbils.

Can gerbals live in a pair?

Yes. But at pet store they should have a group of gerbils. Only buy a gerbil if both are from the same tank at Petsmart or Petco, or your local pet store. If your gerbils start fighting, take them back. WARNING: If you see a tank at a pet store contained of fighting gerbils, don't buy a pair.
