you have a dry socket and need to go back to the dentist and get it drilled out
The gauze is medicated with a simple form of local anesthetic. It is packed into the socket and it will not likely come out. After a day or two it will need to be removed. If the socket is still painful, the dentist may repack it with fresh medicated gauze. It too will have to be removed after a few days. Eventually, the socket will calm down, and the gauze will not have to be replaced.
Only after the gums have healed. Alcohol causes the place where teeth were removed to dry up,"dry socket", and it can be very painful.
The tail/stop/turn light assy has to be removed from the vehicle. This is held in by either two screws on the inside edge, or nuts on the inside of the trunk under the lining. After the assy is removed, the light socket can be twisted to remove it and to replace the bulb.
If it is a true dry socket, you can go to the dentist that removed the tooth and they can pack the whole with medicated gauze. You can also try putting a tea bag over it and firmly but gently biting down. Just a little more pressure than is needed to hold the tea bag in place.

Heat shield do not need removed, use a 3/4 inch spark plug socket. If the socket will not go on the plug, there is probably something inside the heat shield preventing it.

If you still feel what may be part of your tooth left in the socket, that is not good. I would suggest seeing your dentist, or oral surgeon about this as part of your tooth may have broken in the process of the extraction. If there is no partial tooth remaining, you may have what is called dry socket, which is extremely painful.
