You just installed Burning Crusade for wow and it wont let you become a blood elf why is that?

After installing the Burning Crusade, your account also needs to be upgraded to make use of the new event. Go to the BattleNet website (see related links), log in with your details, and find your World of Warcraft subscription. Here you will find an option to "Add Game". Simply put in the authentication key from your TBC CD, and your account will work.

You cant play Wrath of the Lich King without the Burning Crusade. The only way to play blood elf or dranei is to buy Burning Crusade. You also wouldn't really be able to level your character from 60-70 without the leveling areas in the Burning Crusade.
How come if you have the The Burning Crusade but cant play blood elves?
This is because even if you have not signed your account up for burning crusade you have only downloaded it.

Blizzard recently changed it to where "The Burning Crusade" is now included in new accounts, and all vanilla (original game) accounts were automatically upgraded to BC accounts. So no, you do not have to buy them separately.

If you have the battle chest then you should have the Burning Crusade expansion. If you have your account upgraded to BC than all you have to do is pick one. Also remember only the Horde can be blood elves.
