Nearly everyone in Catalunya speak both Catalan and Castellano ("Spanish"). I've never met Xavi but I would be entirely sure that he is fluent in Castellano as well.

Almost everybody in Catalonia can speak spanish. They're quite close languages and anyone who's been born in Spain (including Catalonia, Aragón, Navarra...) can speak spanish. Some catalonians can't write catalonian without mistakes, tough.
