It depends on if the existing light is on it's on circuit, or if it is attached to other electrical devices in the area and are all on the same circuit at the panel box, and if so is there any more room left on the circuit to carry
That's really a question for an electrician. But I do know this much, you better not overload the circuit! Make sure the circuit can handle another light source before you do that.
