All emergency vehicles in my area are labelled "Stay 500 feet behind"
one car length for each 10mph
Grant the emergency vehicle the right of way.
Overtaken? Hence the vehicle is approaching rapidly from behind. You are to slow down and move to the right side of the road in the U.S. as long as it is safe to do so. If there is a shoulder, you are required to pull on to the shoulder and stop your vehicle as long as it is safe to do so) until the emergency vehicle passes you. Basically, you are to yield the right of way to emergency vehicles.

What mechanical emergency? Usually "low" gear (1st or low) will slow vehicle
You should not park a vehicle in a handicapped parking spot unless you have a permit to do so. You should also never park in a fire or emergency lane.
The distance one must maintain behind an emergency vehicle actively engaged in a response, or a pursuit, will vary by state regulations, and even sometimes by local jurisdiction. Fire apparatus customarily has this distance stenciled on the back of the equipment. If it is a law enforcement or emergency medical vehicle you must be aware of your own jurisdictions regulations.Note: Unless you are also operating an emergency vehicle, you may NOT follow one engaged as above. It is against the law to do so in every jurisdiction I am aware of.
You should always remain a safe distance when you are behind another vehicle. The recommended amount of space that you should leave is one and half car lengths.
You should probably not be following one in the first place.
The emergency brake -- and also the stereo, as it distracts drivers too dumb to release the emergency brake.
