No, Don't take him back! He obviously didn't want to spend time with you during the summer so don't spend time with him during the school year. Move on. Find a new boyfriend. It is entirely up to you what to do not others ! You need to talk with him and listen to what he says about why he broke up with you. It is rather unusual for someone to do that. Were you getting along fine before the break-up ? If so then I can't see why he would drop you. He was not into you as much as you thought. If you were on rocky ground before the break-up then maybe he wanted to allow a break to see if you both still had feelings for each other after the summer. It does not mean he definitely does want to get back with you after the summer though, in what he said back then. As I said, talk with him to see how you both feel about each other and go from there.
