Spiral bacteria are one of five different types of bacteria. They are also called spirillum bacteria and have a somewhat rigid spiral shape. Spiral bacteria are reported to be 1.4 to 1.7 micrometers in diameter and can be up to 60 micrometers long. Spirillum bacteria can be found in many habitats but is often found in stagnant water. Helicobacter pylori is found in the human stomach and may cause ulcers, while Campylobacter jejuni can cause diarrhea and is found in undercooked poultry as well as in locations where sanitation is poor.
