well, my brother use to do that too. It lasted for one month and we were so worried. And our family doctor suggested us to go to see a Chinese doctor. He gave us some herb and stuff( I am not sure if those works) But after 3 days, he is quiet and calmer. And another thing is he might scared of something . For a 3 years old child, a big party can be scary enough or a sudden move from you or your family, also can be the noise too. Try a stuffed animal with him and read a story before he go to bed( a happy ending and funny one).
Also, sometimes when a boy like 3-5 years old grows really fast, and their bone aren't ready for that so it might just be painful for them. Drink milk and yogurt and just let him feel that all your family loves him.
