Most 4WD vehicles use automatically locking hubs. By engaging 4WD, a vacuum is formed in the front wheel hubs causing them to lock up into the front differential/transaxle so they can receive power through the transmission. If the seals are leaking, then the vacuum will not form and 4WD will not work.
As for the light not working, I suspect that different models use the 4WD indicator light on the console to either identify when the front differential/transaxle is engaged or when the front wheels are actually engaged. Not having the light on when attempting to engage 4WD can either mean problems with the front locking hub mechanisms or the front differential.
The light that comes on when 4 wheel drive is engaged is not the service light. It is just an indicator light that comes on to let you know the 4 wheel drive is engaged. It will go off when the 4 wheel drive is disengaged.
part time light is on want go out how do i get it out
shayne thorne was here 2009
If the green lights go out for the 4 wheel drive and the yellow light comes on in an Infinity QX4, there could be a problem with the transfer case. There could also be a problem with the 4 wheel drive not engaging when it should.
Just if you want to go into or out of ( 4 wheel drive low ) but not for the 4 wheel drive automatic setting
I do belive that they are vacum controled, so drive forward and go on & of the gas whilst pushing lever out of 4x4 if that dont work go into reverse a little gas then into drive should go into 2 wheel drive then ,works like this on mine
Yes it uses 2 wheel drive
The "drive" wheel.
Yes, just as easily as two-wheel drive vehicles
Transmission fluid on a front wheel drive. All wheel drive unit fluid on a an all wheel drive.
A faulty wheel speed sensor may cause the ABS light to go on. If the "Track Control Off" light is also activated, the faulty sensor is probably on one of the front wheels, since this is a front wheel drive vehicle.
