You can start a computer with either a CD-ROM disk or a floppy disk. This is commonly used in troubleshooting when a system will not start up or what's called "boot-up." In those situations the computer is changed in BIOS to boot up from either the CD-ROM or floppy disk and the files necessary to start the computer are on those files..hope this helps.
Pick up any CD, and what you are actually holding is a CD-ROM. Over time, folks have dropped the "ROM" to make it easier to say.
what it means is on startup of your computer the first thing your computer looks at is the CD ROM if there is no CD in the ROM drive it will then go to either floppy disc if you have one ,or read off your hard drive and windows should start up. all this info is put into your bios on the first time setup. Okay, I understand that but it will not boot … it stay at "CD-Rom Boot Priority .. No Medium Reboot and select proper boot drive" what do I select? 1…2…3…
If you have the driver discs for both this will usually fix the problem, you will need the soundcard drivers and the CD-Rom you may need to update the driver, right click on CD-Rom, go to properties, and you will see the update driver button....

A CD-ROM can hold up to 700MB (megabytes), while a DVD ROM can hold up to 4.7GB (gigabytes, one gigabyte = 1024, megabytes). CD-ROMs are slightly cheaper to manufacture.
A CD Rom is a disc, it looks just like a compact disc that you put into a CD player. On that disc is typically a software program to be used on the computer. For example if you bought a new computer game at the store, it's stored on a CD-ROM. When you get home, you put the CD-Rom into the computer and it installs the game. This could also be something like an encyclopedia like Microsoft Encarta. You would put the disc in, just like you would put a movie into the VHS player and the computer would load up the encyclopedia. CD-ROMs is an acronym for Computer Disc Read-Only Memory, which is a fancy way of saying you can't rewrite what's on the disc. It'll always have whatever is written on it. (Unlike a VHS tape, which can be reordered over)
