You may want to start with the brake fuse. If you still have turn signals and lights. you may also want to check the brake electical relay switch in the relay box Check as well the brake switch located at the brake pedal.

What turns the brake lights on?

When you push the brake pedal.

The rear brake light on your 1989 323 Mazda comes on when you push the brake pedal but all lights are working any suggestions on what the problem is?

Please re-phrase your question; it appears you are saying the brake lights come on when you push the brake pedal and the lights are working (normal operation). If the lights are staying on after you release the pedal, then the problem is with th brake light switch (sticking). Thanks Malcolm

Reverse lights work and signals but brake lights will not work fuses and bulbs are working on 2001 ford expedition?

There is a switch under brake pedal. This switch controls the brake lights. They some times go bad. Have someone stand behind vehicle while you push on brake pedal, if no brake lights come on. Try pushing the brake switch by hand. Check for power with a voltmeter.

How can I get my Ford Explorer Brake Lights to turn off?

Sounds like you have a problem with your brake light switch under the dash, mounted on your brake pedal metal arm assembly. I know if I get my head down near the brake pedal and push the pedal with my hand I can hear a loud click noise when the brake lights come on. I'm not a mechanic, but I've wondered if the brake fluid level is down in the master cylinder, does the brake pedal drop enough for the brake light switch to turn on the brake lights ?

What should you check next if the fuses and bulbs are good but the brake lights will not work on a 96 Monte-Carlo?

Check the brake switch up under the dash on the brake pedal. Lie on the drivers floor, look up and then push the brake pedal with yoru hand and see if there is any kind of electrical connector that actuates the brake lights when you push the pedal in.

Why is my brake pedal clicking on your vauxhall vectra?

There is an electronic relay switch which turns on the rear brake lights-It's located behind the brake pedal- It clicks when you push the pedal down, making contact.

What is wrong on a 96 Chevy pickup when brake lights stay on when driving but when you push on the brakes the lights come off?

I would first check your brake light switch which is attached to your brake pedal under the dash. Since you can turn off the lights by pushing the pedal it is possible the switch is bad. They are around $10.00.I hope this helps you. Mark

Why wont your brake light come on when you push the pedal I've changed the bulbs and fuses but the main lights still wont come on only the one above the back doors comes on why is that?

How do you fix brake lights on 2003 Ford Explorer that stay lit always even when ignition is off and key removed?

It sounds like a problem with your brake light switch that is mounted on the metal arm of your brake pedal under your dash. I'm not a mechanic but I've wondered if the brake fluid level is low in the master cylinder in the engine compartment, does that allow the brake pedal to drop enough to allow the switch to turn on the brake lights ? I know that if I get my head down near the brake pedal, and push the pedal with my hand I can hear a loud click noise when the brake lights come on.

Why are your brake lights staying on while your 2000 Nissan xterra with the ignition off?

The brake switch may be bad or need to be adjusted. Pull up on the brake pedal and see if the lights go out. If so the switch needs adjustment. Get a flash light and lay on the driver side floor board and look up at the brake pedal. You should see a switch with a button on the end that touches the pedal arm. You can just twist the switch loose and lower it a little closer to the pedal arm and twist it back in place. You want it where when you barely push the brake pedal the lights will come on. It may take a couple of times of adjusting to get it right. It may have two of these switches. The other will be for the cruise control. To see which one is which just push down on the pedal and with the other hand push one of the buttons in to see which one is turning the brake lights on and off. If the switch is bad just twist and pull it out of the bracket and unhook the wires and replace.
