Your car might turn off when you come to a stop because the car has an electrical problem or a problem with the distributor. It might also turn off when you come to a stop because of a timing issue.
Probably the carburetor idle jet is fouled.

Yeah my 1991 Ford Tempo does the same thing it starts and idles no problem but if i stop at a gas station and leave it running and come back out to the car i put it in reverse or drive it dies every once in a while

Please describe the "stalling" in full detail. Example: "It dies when I come to a stop after a long drive". etc. my car lights get very damm,and it wont start ather i have stop.
If you have a manual transmission, then simply the car's engine dies because you release the clutch too quicly. If your car is automatic than you might have engine or transmission problems.
