i don't know if it helps, but my '99 legacy outback was making a knocking sound. turned out that the oring on the brake caliper pin had worn out, and the pin was kind of knocking around.
If it is deep in the engine, the engine may need repaired/replaced.
Your rear tire could be making a knocking sound for a number of reasons. You could have a damaged strut or axle that needs replacing.?æ
IT is your CV Joints which is making this noise.
Could be a worn CV joint
the a/c pump could be loose.check to see if the bolts are tight.
In all likelihood, something actually is making a knocking sound near the room where you are sleeping. Your unconscious mind is weaving that sound into a dream as a way of preventing you from being disturbed and waking up.
The knocking problem you are having is most likely the gas you are using. If you switch to a higher octane fuel it should solve the problem.
Valve train
Might be a cracked vacumn hose, there are plenty, and the age is about right for this to happen.
Had the same problem with my 98 Grand Prix, the problem turned out to be a bad inner tie rod end.
Depends on the sound of the knock. Could be main bearings or rod bearings.
