Turn it off until you can have it looked at, the contactor is probably welded shut and you can kill the compressor running it this way.

If the chip that tells the engine what to do overheats , the car will shut off. Most cars do not have such a devise.

If you have your own water heater there should be a shut off at the heater. If not I would look under the kitchen sink. There may be shut off valves at each fixture. If there is a central water heater in the basement, there would be a shut off to each unit.

The compressor willl shut off due to high head pressure, the condensor coil is probably dirty. You will need to get a coil cleaning solution and mix to manufacture recomendation, spray the coil with solution and clean with water after the manufacture recomendation.
