Human drugs should never be given to a dog without a vet's express and explicit instruction to do so.

You can call poison control about things like this--they are set up to handle not only human poisonings but also dog and cat poisonings.

If your dog has ingested Xanax, also contact your vet ASAP to see what to do.

Yes.

You need to take her to the vet immediately.

The above answer is not entirely correct, but is relevant to a certain degree. It depends on how much Xanax was ingested and the weight of the dog along with whether or not your pet has any medical conditions and/or taking prescribed meds for one.

Xanax (alprozolam) is a human medication - (as in developed for humans without veterinary applications considered to bring to market) -that is also prescribed by vets for dogs. For a reference point of my own experience, a family member's 18 lb dog with cancer was prescribed 1mg doses of Xanax and also another human medication, Tramadol at 50mg daily

Some interesting information is this pet's owner was prescribed Xanax 0.5mg doses at +200lbs.

It can cause bleeding ulcers, stomach and intestinal holes in people. Maybe same or worse for pets? Our dog ate Naproxen and had to be rushed to the emergency vet. It can cause GI problems, ulcers, and kidney failure. The half-life of one pill of Naproxen is 72 hours in dogs. Your dog will likely need to be put on a catheter IV for 72 hours to flush the kidneys as well as meds to protect the stomach lining from developing ulcers. 1500 mg of this is absolutely fatal in dogs. That's 3 pills of the prescription dosage or 7.5 pills of the OTC drug. This is very serious and if left untreated can kill your pet. This is also a very expensive treatment and can cost up to $3,000.

What is the dosage of Xanax you can give your dog?

************( posted by someone else)Xanax is actually a prescribed medicine for dogs.As long as you have a prescription from your vet it is safe to give to your dog. If you are unsure of the dose or the current dose is not working, you should contact your vet to discuss your options. My dog is on xanax, she is 13lbs and can take up to .5mg a day.Just so everyone knows, the xanax dogs take is the exact same kind that humans take, my dog's prescription was filled at a Kroger pharmacy. It is absolutely not safe to dose your dog with your xanax though. Vets know your dogs condition and any possible reasons your dog could be harmed by ANY medicine. ALWAYS get medicine from a veterinarian for your animals, that is the only way you can know the correct dose to administer. After all we would not give our children prescription medication without discussing it with a doctor, same goes for your pets!!!!

How much Xanax can you give a 36 pound dog to heavily sedate them for grooming?

You would NEVER give a dog Xanax for sedation. Human medications do not mix well with dogs or any animals & can cause death. Check with your Veterinarian about what sort of sedation to give your dog that would be safe.

What is the dosage of xanax for a 75 pound dog?

Never never give your dog human medication. All medications should be given by a Veterinarian. If your dog has a medical problem, take him or her in to be checked out by your Veterinarian. You could kill your dog with giving it human medications.
