Check for loose connections with a continuity meter. if both speakers cut out at the same time, it the wire harness on the back of your head unit or external amp (if installed) could be loose. If those are all fine, it's probably time for a new head unit or amp

I'm guessing that the only way to do it is to cut the metal plates in front of the speakers with a Dremel, or some kind of other cutting device.
6 x 9 for back speakers!......... front speakers should be 6.5 and depth is at 2inches. You cant get anything that is 2inches or deeper without cutting into the car.
Front (in dash) speakers are 4"
4 inch front speakers and 5 inch rear speakers
the front speakers are 4"x6" the rear speakers are 3-1/2"

The front speakers located in the front doors I believe are 6 inch speakers. The rear speakers are 6 inch X 9 inch speakers.
The correct size for the front speakers on a 1994 Apsire is 5 1/4" speakers.
