It is considered a limb, not an arm. And the loss of a limb does not necessarily mean the hermie crab has died, but is a hermit crab that is very stressed. One needs to double check their tank perimeters to make sure they are correct.
yes
No, it is not dead. Hermit crabs can grow back their "arms" over time, though claws missing can be harder to live without. Just make sure you give lots of new shells so they can molt (which is when the arm is grown back). Don't worry-this happened to my herm!
Hermit crabs will eat more drink more and bath in the SEA salt more they will grow a sack under its arm that has the food it will need when it undergoes this process. Then they will bury itself DO NOT dig them up! If you think they are dead and your tank smells like dead fish then it is dead. Hermit crabs molting can take from weeks to months. When it comes out of the substrate when it is done molting it will have it's old exoskeleton DO NOT take it away, it has all the vitamins it need i know its gross but let them eat it. After that they will bath more in SEA salt water and once their new exoskeleton has hardened they wont bath in it was much.
no, unless you have a water type hermit crab.if you don't you crab and crayfish can die.ps: yor crab will drown and plus if you do have a water type hermit crab will mistake your crayfish for food.:)

Not the day she lost the arm, but she has since then.
how to wake up a arm that feels dead
That was Robert E. Lee when he was told that Stonewall Jackson had had his left arm amputated. Jackson was shot in the arm so had his arm amputated then it had a separate burial for his arm but Lee means like he lost his right hand man. Jackson was important in the war and on Lee's side (Confederacy) so when he lost an arm it was a big deal.
