Well, the daytime running lights are on whenever the car is running and in gear. They're off when you have the headlights on.
So, your service light Doesn't come on when the headlights are on??
If you switch the headlights between on and off (with the car running and in gear) does
the service light follow?
Your daytime running lights (DRL) are on.
Basically, it comes down to the year of the vehicle, and whether it has "City" lights. Running lights (a.k.a. daytime running lights) can be an intergal part of the headlight bulb, meaning that it's the same bulb, as your low beams, just lower voltage signal. With city lights, you need a different bulb. Refer to a Repair Manual (I prefer Bentley [TM]).
Probably not. Many newer vehicles have a similar feature that allows certain lights, usually the daytime running lights (headlight switch is off, but headlights are on low intensity high beam) and related ones, to turn off when the parking brake is engaged. I suspect that you will find that your daytime running headlights do the same thing. It is simply the vehicle 'realising' that the parking brake is on and, therefore, the running lights are unneccessary.
There is a separate fuse for the daytime running lights (DRL). I think there might be a relay also. If the green DRL indicator comes on, but the lights themselves don't, check the fuse and the relay. I think it is in the fuse/relay center by the battery.
I pull the hand brake 1 teeth which hopefully has no effect on engaging the worn brakes on rear drums of the car. Of course brake lights turns on on the dash panel. Hope that someone comes up with better answer.
same problemit maybe broken and cracked wires which is located in the headlamp wire harness. the harness may need to be replaced. Pink wire in the harness where it passes between the frame and windshield washer bottle is corroded.....easy fix.
"The Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd is a heavy duty truck that does not include all the frills most vehicles offer today. Yes, it is safe for families. It comes with front airbags, daytime running lights, and rear child door locks."
If the service light comes on it usually mean there is maintenance needed to be done elsewhere than the engine. Try making sure all your lights work including break lights, turn signals head lights, parking lights, etc.

Installing daytime running lights is simple as long as you know what you want. Aftermarket driving lights make some excellent daytime running lights. I used a set and they work fine. The best thing to do is go to your local auto parts store and select a set of driving lights that satisify you as to how they look on your vehicle. The instructions for installing this kit is included with the lights. If you want to make sure they come on and go off with the ignition switch, install a relay and run the power wire to energize the relay to a system activated with the ignition being turned on and off. Make sure the wire is run correctly or there could be big problems. I used the wiper power wire and it works fine because the power comes from the battery for the lights not the wiper wire. The only thing the wiper wire is for is to provide a trigger for the relay to turn on or off. There are a lot of nice kits out there and a lot of them are very inexpensive and will do a fine job. You can find the relay wiring schematic on the internet by going to google and entering wiring a bosch relay. The simplest way is to carry it to an electronics shop and have them do the installation, they already have experienced people. .
Turn your headlamp switch counter-clockwise from off until it clicks, then comes back to off position. This turns the DRL on and off. Remember, you won't see them come on unless the car is in gear. You can check this at a stop light with the reflection from the back of the car stopped in front of you.
it comes out at 9:00 in the daytime
