Put the key in and move the steering wheel until the key can turn
If you have the key and it won't turn the lock cylinder try jiggling the steering wheel while turning the key. If the steering wheel lock is merely jammed that should loosen it enough to turn the key. On the other hand if you don't have the key or the lock itself is jammed you may want to replace the lock cylinder.
Jiggle the steering wheel as you turn the key. I've owned several cars in which the steering wheel lock wouldn't let the key turn if there was any pressure on the steering wheel lock.
turn the key to the on position. then you should be able to turn the wheel
turn steering wheel lock to lock several times.
The Steering Wheel lock is jammed! Gently wiggle the steering wheel back and forth as you try to turn the ignition key.
sounds like the steering wheel lock is active. try pulling the wheel down to the left, and while holding the tension, turn the key.
turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times it bleeds itself when it is running
Ignition switch not releasing pawl in steering lock
Turn the steering wheel fully from lock to lock
Let me guess. You have power steering, right? When you turn the wheel all the way to the lock, the power steering pump is still trying to turn it further, which is why the steering feels jerky. You can blow up the pump, or a hose, by holding the wheel against the lock. You won't turn any wider if you let the wheel come back one quarter turn, but you will take the pressure off of the pump.
the steering wheel should have ridges on the center chrome peice, turn that peice and the steering wheel should come apart
No. with the steering wheel locked you need to move it in the opposite direction so that you can turn the ignition, otherwise you're causing more problems for yourself. So whatever direction the steering wheel will turn(i think left) is the way you should turn it and then flip the ignition.
