Sounds like your torque converter needs replacing
You need to check the transmission computer for codes to know possible causes.
Check the viscosity of your transmission fluid, then ask what's appropriate weight for transmission fluid in your area.
Could be a number of things, check your your transmission fluid, if the level is fine, it may be your transmission or clutch. Most likely your clutch, which is cheaper than a transmission.
Check transmission fluid level Could be a bad transmission pump
probably something wrong with the transmission like a gear fault or a transmission glitch or overheat. Take it to a repair shop or do some test maitanenence yourself.
Auto? Low or dirty transmission fluid? Plugged filter? Bad transmission pump? When my husband's car wouldn't shift (it was an automatic) it was his crankshaft sensor. It ran fine after that.
my 1990 tracker has that exact same problem, what it is a a problem Geo has with its seals, what causes it is a the seal around first gear shrinks and keeps it from shifting and the cold makes it worse what you need is to have the transmission rebuilt, but if you cant afford that i would go to your local auto parts store and buy some transmission swell and seal. what it is is and additive that you add to your transmission fluid and it softens and swells the seal for better sealing.
If your shifter is on the steering column, the problem is probably under the dashboard on the steering column. It is an easy fix. remove the panel under the steering column, and spray silicon lubricant on the shift lever that extends out of the column that the shift cable is attached to. 9 times out of 10 this will be the problem. Or, you could follow the other suggestions or have your transmission replaced. but at some point, you will need to lubricate this linkage to fix the problem.
u have a bad transmiton they are about 500.00$
The transmission is not building up enough pressure to shift. Check your fluid and fill if needed. If fluid is fine change the trans. filter and the pressure modulator. If that does not fix it have the tourqe converter flushed. If that does not fix it, you may need to have the transmission overhauled or have the transmission replaced Another thing, check your linkages!!. there could be a lose linkage on the transmission, or it could be seased.
It means the transmission is bad.
It turns on just fine, just doesn't shift into gear. Transmission fluid is full.
