If you want to be a good parent, accept that parenting is not a science, it's an art. We want to raise healthy, responsible, creative, intelligent and capable young adults, but, unfortunately, there's no guarantee, no matter what you do. Accept that, and let your kids know that you're not perfect, that you're only trying to guide them and help them learn. No parent knows exactly how their kids will turn out, so be proud of them whoever they turn out to be.
The role of science is neither to accept or reject religion. These are two separate areas of human endeavor.

All parents, no matter who they are, are really just hoping for the best, and nobody has "The Answer." That said, there's a lot of wisdom out there. Talk to other parents, talk to your own parents, co-workers, friends and relatives and get as many parenting tips as you can gather.
