While most people have heard of low-carb and no-carb dieting, there remain quite a few myths about this kind of lifestyle. Carbs provide just one source of the body's energy, but the energy from carbohydrates can easily be replaced by energy from proteins and healthy fats. So, a person can have a nutritious, energy-filled diet without carbohydrates. For those pursuing a completely, or nearly completely, carb-free life, food options are plentiful.

Most of the carb-free foods are meats and proteins. A wide variety of meats are free of carbs, including many cuts and preparation of beef, pork, bacon, ham, chicken, lamb, venison and duck. Seafood lovers can also follow a carb-free diet without sacrificing favorites like lobster, crab, mussels, salmon, halibut, flounder and cod. These proteins provide lots of energy without the carbs.

Fruits and vegetables provide a great source of nutrients; while all vegetables and fruits have some level of carbs, some have carb levels that are so low, they are practically carb-free. Olives, leafy greens, and spinach each contain less than one net carb per serving.

While milk itself has carbs, many dairy items are carb-free. Butter is truly carb-free, and cream, cottage cheese, eggs and cheese have miniscule traces of carbs. Unsweetened soy and almond milk are the lowest carb milk options, since cow's milk has more than 10 grams of carbs per serving.

A variety of beverage options exist for those practicing a no-carb lifestyle. Coffee, tea and, of course, water are all carb-free. Since artificial sweeteners have such low carbs and used is such moderation, since they have a strong taste, they are considered carb-free. Any drinks sweetened with artificial sweeteners, then, can be part of a carb-free diet: diet drinks, sugar-free sodas, and sugarless powdered drink mixes.

With the increased popularity of low-carb and no-card diets, more packaged goods without carbs are available. Today, a variety of products are available without carbohydrates; finding one is as simple as checking the nutritional information of any package.

Today, it's quite possible to enjoy a healthy life without a diet full of carbohydrates. People following a no-carb lifestyle can find food options in proteins, fats, dairy, vegetables and fruits.
