Decorative pillows add elegance to the bedroom. Use a variety of different shapes and sizes, combining complementary colors with your chosen main color. A mixture of square, round and neckroll pillows adds visual interest to your bed.

If you are not sure which colors go well with each other, then use a color wheel. Colors close to the same light spectrum are on both sides of the main color. For example, if your duvet is yellow, then your pillows could have orange or green designs to complement the yellow.

While the pillows must coordinate with the duvet, consider other large areas of color in the room. Your walls and draperies are at the same height as the bed coverings, so choose two or three pillows that have your wall and drapery colors. This helps to pull your bedroom theme together as one coordinated design.

Mix light and dark tones to enhance the patterns. Darker backgrounds help to show off light or bright patterns. Conversely, a bright yellow or green background is toned down with a black or dark brown design.

Your bed will be more attractive when the pillows have designs of different sizes. If one pillow has a small, busy floral pattern, then choose one or two other pillows that have large or medium patterns. Use solid color pillows to offset the patterned ones.
