Cleaning jobs are plentiful and pay well; therefore, they make an excellent career choice. Depending on the type of cleaning job chosen, there is room for advancement. Cleaning jobs may include industrial cleaning, domestic cleaning, office cleaning, hotel/motel cleaning and construction site cleaning. Although these jobs entail similar requirements, the duties vary greatly. It is important to know which type of cleaning job is desired in order to make the proper career choice.

Education Required for Cleaning Jobs

Industrial-Industrial cleaning jobs do not usually require higher education. On the job training is provided by the company as to their specific needs. A candidate for industrial cleaning careers will go through extensive training on specific chemicals and safety procedures the company may have.

Domestic- Candidates for domestic cleaning are often (but not always) required to have some type of training in the area. For certain high end jobs, the candidate must obtain training in proper etiquette and procedure. A background check is usually performed prior to employment.

Office- Office cleaning jobs do not require any type of special education. These jobs require speed as well as some heavy lifting. On the job training is provided for the candidate. A background check is generally necessary in order to begin the job.

Hotel/Motel- This type of cleaning job requires on the job training as well as a background check. This job also obliges that the employee provide confidentiality to the clients who visit.

Construction- Construction cleaning does not require any special education. It is a much heavier job than most and therefore requires special equipment if the candidate is required to provide his or her own supplies.

Cleaning job pay rates can range from $20,000 to $50,000 per year. Hotel and office cleaning services are at the lower end scale while some domestic and industrial jobs pay higher rates. The rates are dependent on the specific region the employee may work as well.
