The typical student is still relatively clueless when it comes to test taking. Freaking out and freezing up tends to be the norm when students find out their future for the semester depends on their ability to take tests. After reading this `list, you can relax and become a test taking whiz status who views midterms and finals as cool beans.
1. Cram the references-memorize special information, the fine details to the subject matter, for use during an exam. Keep a special page of references with the major details pertaining to the questions and transfer such pertinent data when you get the test in your hands. Write it down on the back of the last page, an extra piece of paper, or skip to the questions that exactly deal with this stuff. These items will likely carry a higher weight so you do not want to miss any points due to a foggy memory because you waited to answer in chronological order.
2. Move around the test-by now you should know that a good way to cheat on an exam without really cheating is to look at other questions to answer those that have you stumped. If you are lucky, you will find several answers this way. Save some time and never be accused of cheating when you move around and check the test for answers.
3. Follow directions-do not just skim the directions or assume you know what is being asked of you by only judging what the problem appears to be asking you to provide. at times, directions will require additional details to show that you know what you claim you do. Do not get caught up and blow it all simply because you did not take the time to go through the directions.
4. Relieve some stress-getting relaxed for a test or quiz may sound impossible but it can be done. You may not be able to get rid of the nerves altogether but calming down enough for clear thinking is ideal. Use stress relief breathing techniques to allow your body to release naturally. If possible, for 24 hours before test time, avoid any activities that will get you wound up. Because you will need to study in advance, if studying has you stressed out enough to cause anxiety and panic, reschedule for a later date until you are truly ready to be tested.
5. Skip to the ones you know-do not waste time on items that you are not sure of the answer. Jump around on the page and quickly select those that you are for sure about first, those that you know something about, and save those that you are clueless about for last. As you work down to the lesser-known items, you will become more confident in your choices and you are more likely to garner answers from the material that you have already marked off. Keep a strategy from the beginning and stick to it.
