Many individuals suffer from some sort of skin disorder or another, regardless of their age, gender or nationality. Some skin disorders are more serious than others. However, due to advances in medical treatments, even the worst of skin disorders can typically be treated with the help of a physician.

Acne

Acne is probably the most common skin disorder. Although acne is a skin disorder that is primarily associated with adolescents, people of all ages suffer from acne. Acne comes in many forms and in varying degrees of severity, but most people will suffer from some degree of this skin disorder at some point in their life.

Acne typically appears on the face, but it also appears on the back, neck, shoulders and chest, along with other areas of the body in some cases. This skin disorder commonly appears in the form of whiteheads and blackheads, but individuals who suffer from from serious cases of this skin disorder can also suffer from cystic or nodular acne.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is more serious skin disorder, but it is also very common. Caused by an excess buildup of skin tissue, psoriasis usually appears in the form of a thick, red rash that is covered in silver-colored scales. This skin disorder typically first appears on the elbows and knees.

Eczema

Eczema is a very common skin disorder that comes in three different forms. Atopic dermatitis is the most common form of eczema, and it appears in the form of itchy rashes that usually appear behind the knees and in the elbows. It is also the most common form of eczema that is seen in children, but many adults also suffer from this skin disorder.

Eczema comes in two other forms: allergic contact dermatitis, which is caused by an allergic reaction to jewelry, cosmetics, lotions and chemicals, and nummular dermatitis, which is caused by dry skin. Nummular dermatitis usually causes coin-sized patches on the skin that are both red and extremely itchy.

Although these common skin disorders can be embarrassing and irritating, they are not life threatening. By keeping the skin completely moisturized and by seeking help from a physician, you can typically lessen the effects of a skin disorder.
