Some commentators have questioned the way that our society embraces sports completely, without reservations. In many colleges and higher institutions of learning, athletic departments receive major funding while academic pursuits are neglected. Nevertheless, there is evidence that strong sports teams attract donors for colleges, benefiting all students.
