A published author or blogger could potentially make millions if their work goes viral and is liked by many readers, but as with any career in the arts, the need to stand out above the rest is always important in order to make the big bucks.

Creative writing careers are rewarding psychologically. For an individual who loves to write and has a creative ability, a career in creative writing can be soothing, exciting and highly rewarding overall. Many creative writers work freelance but some become in-house employees, especially those writing advertising material. Most of the time, creative writers have flexibility to choose their own work hours, write about topics of interest to them and decide where they wish content to be published.

A college education is not a necessity for a creative writer but it can be very beneficial, especially a background in creative writing and English. Many creative writers, especially gaming writers or travel writers, write on topics that they are familiar with firsthand. For instance, a gaming writer is usually very interested in Video Games, play often and has firsthand knowledge of the topic. Travel writers have typically traveled the areas that they write about and have firsthand knowledge of the subject matter. So, while a college education or firsthand knowledge of a topic is not necessary, it can be very helpful to the writer.
