Located in Southwest Syria is the historical city of Damascus. Noted as being the oldest inhabited city in the world, Damascus is a must see city for anyone interested in world history. Damascus is also famous for it’s religious history. The Apostle Paul was baptized here, and the location can still be visited. Many religious artifacts, churches, mosques, and shrines can be seen here.

For the best shopping visit Souq al-Hamadiyyeh. At this large market you can experience Syrian food and purchase unique crafts. For even more dining choices, venture downtown as it is jam packed with restaurants and cafes that will allow you to sample the tastes of Syria.

Other points of interest are the Umayyad Mosque, an impressive structure and resting place of the Arab leader, Saldin. St. Paul’s church, located on the site where Paul escaped an attempt on his life. The 11th Century Citadel, which was built to keep out the crusaders. Also consider the National Museum, which houses a plethora of art and artifacts.

Affordable and accessible, Damascus offers travelers an incredible once in a lifetime experience.
