The Mercedes GPS navigation does require an installation cd. From what I read its a waste of money because they usually don't work. It looks like its cheaper to buy your own GPS.
From my research results, it looks like the Garmin and Tom Tom make affordable GPS devices. It all depends on what type of GPS you are looking for and the map services that come with it.
