There are few places in the U.S like Durham, North Carolina, in the heart of the beautiful mountains and valleys of North Carolina. Whether it’s a trip to one of Durham’s several museums and theatres, a stroll through any of the city’s five districts filled with specialty shops and eateries, outdoor fun and adventure for the entire family at Eno river State Park, a tour of the exquisite architecture at prestigious Duke University, or relaxing with a game of baseball at magnificent Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the city of Durham, North Carolina delivers something for everyone.

Food and Drink

The area in and around Durham is separated in to five districts. The Ninth Street District, the Brightleaf/Warehouse District, the Rockwood District, the American Tobacco and City Center District, and the Southpoint District are each their own unique world of museums, theaters, shops and restaurants that provide a never ending flow of local flavors and designs.

The Southpoint District features an open air shopping and dining village known as “The Streets of Southpoint”. There are over 140 different shops and restaurants as well as a giant movie theatre where the whole family can unwind after a long day of shopping and enjoying a meal from such favorites as The Cheesecake Factory and California Pizza Kitchen.

Main Street in downtown Durham is where to go for a little adult oriented refreshments and fun. Local Warehouse District and American Tobacco District spots for live music and drinks include the Down Under Pub, Bull McCabes Irish Pub, and the Cuban Revolution Bar and restaurant.

No matter the occasion, with literally hundreds of options, there is a perfect place for it somewhere in Durham, North Carolina.

Arts and Entertainment

The city of Durham, North Carolina may be best known as the home of the Durham Bulls minor league baseball team, featured in the 1987 film “Bull Durham”. While baseball is also still a major attraction in Durham with the Bulls, now the AAA affiliate for the major league Tampa Rays, all Basketball fans will want to make sure to visit Duke University, home of the legendary Duke Blue Devils.

For the outdoorsman in the family the Durham area is a virtual paradise featuring not only the hiking trails and camping grounds at Eno River State Park to the north but also Lake B. Everett Jordan for boating and fishing.

Art and theatre lovers will want to check out The Nasher Museum of Art on the campus of Duke University, The North Carolina Central University Museum of Art, The Carolina Theatre, and the Durham Performing Arts Center as well as several other local playhouses. Durham has a thriving theatre and arts scene and beginning in the early 90s, a popular location for shooting motion pictures, television shows, and commercials.

With all this and so much more, Durham, North Carolina really is one of Americas very best spots for both family friendly fun as well as a romantic setting for couples of all ages.
