Merchandising is a great opportunity to get into an entry-level position that can elevate you fairly quickly within a company. Not only does a career in merchandising offer you a great position for advancement, but merchandisers are often very well compensated for their time. Merchandising jobs require you to be willing to put in a little physical work, but the payoff is more than enough to make this work worth it. In fact, of the different types of entry-level retail jobs out there, merchandising jobs pay some of the highest salaries.
You first have to think about what type of merchandising job you are interested in getting. There are two major types of merchandising jobs, and these are: retail re-setter and on-site merchandising. Retail re-setters are the people that go into large stores very early in the morning and work on moving whole sections of a store from one side to another. These merchandisers will also often take inventory while they are doing their work, and this job doesn't require a whole lot of experience. On-site merchandisers are people that work for a specific company and who make sure the goods of their company have a prominent place on the floor of a store. Re-setters often make $10 an hour to start with no experience, and regular merchandisers can often start at around $25,000 a year.
The most attainable of these jobs is by far the retail re-setter job. This job will require you to show up at a store early in the morning and work with a crew of people to move inventory from one section of the store to another. These people generally work before and after large holidays to move holiday merchandise to the floor and then back off the floor.
Merchandising jobs are some of the most integral and well paying jobs out there. Most people that work in merchandising make more than the average store employee for doing what is essentially the same amount of work. These jobs are almost always considered to be "entry level" positions, so they should not be very difficult for someone without any experience to get.
