Skiing equipment should be fun, functional and high performing. The sport of skiing, both downhill and cross country, requires good winter clothing and solid equipment. The ski gear that you use does not have to be top of the line or professional, but it should be at minimum comfortable, safe and functional. The ski clothing that you wear is also of critical importance when you go skiing for both safety reasons and comfort. Choosing ski gear that matches your ability level and ski clothing that keeps keeps you warm, while allowing a full range of movement, are two primary keys to enjoying the sport of skiing.

There are many different ski equipment companies that produce skiing equipment for a wide range of skiing abilities. If you are a beginning skier, you will want to look for a shorter, parabolic ski that is easy to turn and stop. You will also want to find a pair of ski boots that are comfortable, give you sufficient support and keep your feet warm. If you are an expert skier, you may want to consider owning a few pairs of skis, so that you can match the skis you use to the type of terrain and/or conditions you are skiing on a particular day. Some skis are designed for powder skiing, while other skis perform better on wide, packed-powder downhill slopes. Choosing ski equipment that matches and enhances your skiing ability will facilitate your enjoyment of the sport and ensure a higher level of safety.

Purchasing good ski clothing is also very important to making sure you are warm and comfortable while skiing. If you are too hot and perspire, your clothes may become damp and clammy. When you get on the chair lift, or sit down to rest, you may become quite chilled from your damp clothing. Investing in good ski clothing, especially long underwear that wicks moisture away from your skin and retains its warmth even when damp, is a great investment in your skiing experience. Purchasing a good jacket and ski pants are also critical elements to staying warm, comfortable and safe during extended periods outside in the mountains during the winter.

Investing in a good pair of high-quality sunglasses and ski goggles is also critical to protecting your eyes while you are skiing. If it is a sunny day on the slopes, the sunlight will be refracted by the sun and increase in intensity exponentially. This level of sustained exposure to bright sunlight may damage your eyes. If you invest in good quality ski equipment, clothing, sun glasses and/or ski goggles, your level of enjoyment on the slopes will be much higher, and your skiing experience will be much safer and more enjoyable.
