Home owners that live in areas where the electric power fails frequently during bad weather will appreciate their gas cooktops. Though the blender, the microwave and many other electric gadgets will not work during a power outage, gas cooktops can still be used to put dinner on the table. Gas cooktops can also be used to heat small areas of the home during winter storms where heavy snows and sleet sometimes cuts the power to large areas for several days. Simply close off unused rooms in the home and keep a pot of water boiling on the burner.
