Business schools only want the best of the best. Anything less than perfection can be considered a failure. Grades alone will not secure a spot in a premier institution. There has to be a combination of exemplary scholarship and test scores. The test scores associated with entry into a high caliber Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) program require beyond average GMAT preparation.

The GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test is a standardized test in math and English. The tester is measured on their ability to be a successful candidate in a graduate business school.

The GMAT takes over three hours to complete with categories consisting of an analytical writing assessment, problem solving, data sufficiency, sentence correction, critical reasoning, and reading comprehension. The highest score attainable is 800. With pressure to get into the best schools in the country, what is expected in regard to GMAT preparation?

Understanding the Test

The computer based test is different than the paper based test. The idea behind the computerized version is to generate an accurate assessment of the tester’s abilities. The first question of every section is of average difficulty. Based upon the answer, the question can get more difficult or easier. Stick with the credo of studying early and studying often. GMAT preparation should not be taken lightly.

Practice Often

Several outlets provide current GMAT preparation materials. The best source of material is free online or downloadable content. With free tests, questions can be answered at a slower pace while working up to the similar time frame of the GMAT test.

If a company offers GMAT preparation courses, check to see if they are affiliated with the Graduate Management Admissions Councilâ„¢. If not, the preparation may be meritless and just an attempt to generate money and not offer quality educational resources. If the final GMAT will be taken using the computer format and not the paper format, ensure time is spent utilizing the computerized testing formats.

The final GMAT preparation involves reenacting the test itself. Creating the same environment allows the tester to maximize all of the preparatory efforts. Among other things, remember to stay relaxed. A scattered mental state will not allow the GMAT preparation to be worth the time and effort and thus not generate the desired results.
