The VIN is the Vehicle Identification Number. The VIN has nothing to do with value, and everything to do with identification of the vehicle. It will not serve this purpose.
In Australia you can look in a book called the Redbook which will show you lots of values of cars.
Cars of this era had no VIN#. They did however have a build plate. There was no standardized location for the plate. Normally it was under the hood on the firewall, but can be in another place. All I can tell you is to look for it.
