Something that spans more than one discipline and probably more correctly, many disciplines. So for example, a multi disciplinary study of musical preference might have academic researchers from Musicology, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Neuro-Biology all working together. Or the person doing the study might read up in all these areas whilst compiling their research.
Probably psychology if that is a science discipline but a knowledge of mathematics is still needed to a certain extent I would think.
Usually a formal education requires a degree of discipline just to finish the required courses. If you don't have discipline when you start, the requirements of a formal education can teach SOME discipline, but if you didn't have it already you probably won't have much when you get out of college.

Probably not. While most (all?) have an exception to battery statutes to allow parents to reasonably discipline children, an adult slapping a child, especially in the face, with all their strength is probably in excess of the discipline exception.
