Mascara defines and colors your lashes. It can highlight and dramatize your eyes. Anyone who wears mascara wants to have the best look whether it be the longest, darkest, thickest or most dramatic. You can achieve the look you want by the way you apply your mascara.

Step 1: Select the type of mascara best suited for your lashes and what you want to do to your lashes. You can choose from many different brands and formulas from thickening, lengthening, waterproof, long wearing formulas to a choice of different colors.

Step 2: Select a color. If you have light colored lashes such as blonde or red you might like to try a brown; light brown lashes look good in a dark brown or black or if you want a more dramatic look go for a bold dark color.

Step 3: You can choose to curl your lashes with a lash curler although it is totally optional. Take your lash curler and place it over lashes and squeeze to get the curl you want. It is best if you apply all other eye make-up after curling your lashes and before adorning them with mascara.

Step 4: Take the wand from the tube of mascara of your choice in one smooth pull. This will help prevent drying out and clumping of the mascara. Pumping the wand in and out pushes air into the tube and can cause drying and also to allow bacteria into the tube.

Step 5: Start with the underside of your upper lashes. It is best if you always move in a slow upward stroke toward the tips of your lashes. Rolling the brush during the stroke upwards helps separate your lashes. Hold the brush even with your upper eyelids.

Step 6: Allow the first coat to dry before applying a second coat if desired.

Step 7: If rolling the brush doesn't separate your lashes to your satisfaction try using an eyelash comb. Comb through your lashes slowly and gently. Remove any excess mascara from lashes by blotting lightly with a tissue.

Step 8: On the lower lashes begin at the edge of the lower eyelid and gently stroke in a downward motion. If there is any stray mascara around the edges of the eyes use a cotton swab lightly dipped in make-up remover to take it off easily without smudging the rest of the mascara.

Taking these few easy steps to enhancing your eyelashes can draw admiring looks and attention to your eyes. Experiment with different types of wands and formulas to find which look you like best. After all “playing” with make-up is half the fun.
