Sometimes when you visit theme parks in the summer it may seem that you spend more time standing in line than riding the rides. There are a few things you can do to minimize that wasted time in line and pack more fun into your next theme park vacation.

Take Advantage of the Early Hours

One of the easiest ways to get on and off rides more quickly is to be there before everyone else. Since most theme parks are part of traveling vacations, many people choose to sleep in late before they go to the park. The first two hours of a park’s operation are the absolute best time to find short lines and ride several rides. Before you head to the park, get a map of the rides. Decide which ones you want to ride the most, and head straight to those rides when the park first opens. Then you can go through your list one ride at a time until the park becomes more crowded.

Change Your Eating Habits

By the time the crowds arrive, you’ll probably be ready to eat breakfast. That works out perfectly, because everyone else will be lining up to ride the rides. If you plan to eat your meals a little later or earlier than everyone else, you will find that the lines for food are shorter as well. By the time you have finished eating, everyone else will be headed toward the restaurants and the ride lines will be shorter again.

A Party of One

Some theme parks are busy from the time that they open to the time that they close. Most of the larger theme parks have a little-known system that you can take advantage of to skip the long lines. Look for a single-rider line. Since most theme park visitors are riding with friends, there are often empty single seats left open. The ride operator will allow single riders to skip the groups and fill the extra seats. When you choose to ride alone you will find that your waiting time is greatly reduced and you will get to ride as many rides as you want to all day long.
