There’s nothing quite like being in the driving seat of a thrilling race. What’s even more exciting is when it’s a NASCAR race and all eyes are glued on your performance. In the past you perhaps needed little formal training and education to get started as a driver. Nowadays it has become big business and there are few more stipulations that dictate what you need in order to become a NASCAR driver.
Step 1. Start as early as possible. Most places will either have a race track or go-kart race tracks. These are perfect places to start. A lot of the professional NASCAR drivers today started from a very early age, often as young as four. So, if you want your son or daughter to be the next Kurt Busch, then get them in the driving seat as early as possible.
Step 2. Buy a pit pass and talk to crew members, officials and other people in the know about progressing your child’s career. Remember to be polite and courteous, and you never know what connections you can make from doing this.
Step 3. If your child really wants to become a NASCAR driver, then they’re going to have to work hard for it. This means lots of practice time down at the tracks and at school as well. Nowadays, the drivers need to be well educated. A high school diploma is the bare minimum. Drivers need to come across as well spoken and educated on camera, and also be able to understand the latest technology used in the cars they’re driving.
Step 4. When your child is ready, they’ll need to get sponsorship deals, so that they can continue racing at a professional level. This may take some time, but you may even be lucky and have people approach you asking if they can sponsor your child - if they see potential.
Becoming a professional NASCAR racing driver can be a very rewarding career, both financially and socially. By ensuring your child starts at an early age, you will provide them with a better chance of being a successful driver.
