A serious athlete’s best success stems from the help he receives from others mixed with his own determination. However, an uninformed, unprepared, or untrained athlete is usually not able to reach his goals or the necessary level of competition. It is necessary for an athlete to seek out knowledgeable professionals and athletic services which will aid the training.
Sports clinics are designed to meet the athlete’s main health needs. Programs vary from clinic to clinic, but most offerings are standard. Typically, sports clinics will offer sports medicine and injury rehabilitation, injury reduction training, nutrition counseling and information, personal trainers, and other health-related sports information.
An athlete cannot expect to have all of his needs met if he does not do everything he can to benefit from the sports clinic. If the athlete wants to gain as much as possible from a sports clinic, there are some necessary things to do.
1) Get the coach and other trainers involved. An athlete should not go to a sports clinic without his coaches’ knowledge. The coach, trainers, and athlete need to be one conducive team. Therefore, everyone should know what is happening, what programs are being pursued, or what outside training/rehab is being used.
2) Ask a lot of questions. Success is not reached by saying, I already knew that or I don’t have any questions. Instead, ask as many questions as necessary. Successful athletes are informed athletes who take time to learn about their sport, training, nutrition, injuries, etc.
3) Learn about all of the sports clinic’s offerings and test programs. An athlete may participate in a program or sports clinic simply because it sounded like a good idea or because someone told him too. However, if a particular service is not directly applied to the sport or not providing desired result, don’t stick it out. A serious athlete needs to focus his attention and energy on services that will be directly beneficial to his athletic goals.
Using a sports clinic can be very beneficial for an athlete of any level or sport. A wise coach and athlete will learn how to take advantage of the services offered to reach the highest level of success.
It is going to depend on the clinic and their capabilities. Most sports clinics should be able to set a bone and possibly even do surgery if necessary.
