First of all you need to get them warm to crack the glue, otherwise the shoes break. Either run through your barre work to get them nice and warm or wear them to bed. Once they are warm take them off and bend them forwards and backwards until the heel can be folded onto the tip. You will hear cracking noises but this is ok. Another method is to place them in the door and slam it, my teacher reccomends this one.
When you can roll up through the foot to demi point and then en pointe slowly tehn in a releve they are broken in.
Have fun!
you could also step on the box (while your foot's not in it) or put water on the vamp (not on the box)!!!
Ballet shoes are unmistakably known as the most painful shoes throughout the world, particularly the pointe shoes. If you are a newer Pointe ballet dancer, or if you need newer shoes, the shoes will need to be sufficiently comfortable after the first couple of times of wearing them. Below is a list of steps on how to break in your new ballet shoes.
1. Before you break in the new ballet shoes, clip your toenails. You would want the toes to NOT rub against the flooring, and by keeping your toenails trim will prevent a lot of discomfort and pain.
2. Wear tights when you wear your shoes. Obviously you wear your tights during rehearsals and performances, so why make your feet feel more sensitive by not wearing tights?
3. Use rubbing alcohol to lightly wet your shoes. Stay focused on the areas of the shoe that give your feet the most trouble. Typically, the tops of the toes and the heel are an obvious focal area for the alcohol. Put on the shoes while they are still wet and wear for at least a half an hour walking around before beginning your rehearsal or practice.
4. Use lamb’s wool to place anywhere in your ballet shoe where discomfort persists. Lamb’s wool is very soft and will conform to the contours of your feet.
5. Wearing socks over your ballet shoes will keep them a bit cleaner while you break them in. One of the most noticeable things about newer ballet shoes is that they will not look new for long. Many dancers choose to wear socks over their shoes around the house. This will also help break in your newer ballet shoes.
Don't forget to remove the socks before your big recital!
You don't need to break in ballet flats, but you do need to break in pointe shoes.
Not for regular ballet but for pointe there is a chance that you could break toes.
If you do tap, tap shoes. If you do ballet, ballet flats.
