Wool rug runners are beautiful additions to your home, enhancing style and protecting your floors. Especially beautiful in halls and entrances, runners offer a complementary or contrasting color as well as texture.

When you buy a wool rug runner, you may notice loose fibers or fluff. This is natural and to be expected. Vacuuming will take care of it and it will stop releasing these fibers after a few days.

Use a carpet pad under your wool rug to help protect it from wear, and to keep it from wearing in one area rotate or move end to end every two to three years.

To keep the colors fresh and the rug from wearing, vacuum two or three times a week. Keeping debris and loose dirt out of the fibers will prolong the life of the wool rug runner and postpone a more serious cleaning. The less often a wool rug has to be cleaned, the longer it will last.

If a spill occurs, clean it up immediately by blotting all that you can. Since wool fibers are naturally stain resistant, a damp cloth is often all that you'll need. If you need to clean further, use a gentle cleaner made for wool. Don't scrub, but wipe the rug gently.

Some wool rug runners can be washed in a washing machine, but check with the manufacturer first and always use a very mild cleaner and cold water. Spot clean first before washing or cleaning in any manner. Never dry your wool rug runner in a dryer.

If your rug is too large to fit in a washer, lay it on a smooth surface like a driveway and wet it down with a hose. Add a capful of detergent made especially for wool to a bucket of water, then use a rag or sponge mop to go over the surface of the rug. Rinse with the hose, then either use a wet/dry vacuum or roll it into several towels to absorb the water. Lay it out again to dry but protect it from the sun. Don't put it back on the floor until it's completely clean to avoid mildew.
