Except for the connoisseur of coffee who may use an old percolating coffee pot or a modern coffee press, the standard coffee pot at home is the 12 cup coffee maker. Most are used throughout the day serving coffee for breakfast lunch and dinner times. They get dirty fast. Many will just wipe the pot down and throw the carafe in the dishwasher leaving the stains that making coffee invariably produces behind.
There is no need to go out and replace a perfectly functional coffee maker when a bit of creative cleaning can get an old one looking new again. Household bleach can be diluted according to manufacturer’s directions on the label for use in cleaning dishes. It is then safe to clean the exterior surfaces of the coffee maker as well as the carafe, carafe lid and the basket that hold the ground coffee.
Soaking a stained carafe, carafe lid, and basket for about 15 minutes in a sink filled with this diluted bleach solution will remove many stubborn stains with no scrubbing. It is a good idea to not use any abrasive materials on the carafe anyway, because small scratches can weaken the glass. Wear gloves and use a strong brand of paper towel to wipe away the coffee stains on the surfaces of the immersed items a little at a time. As the bleach works on the surface of a stain, a little rub with the paper towel will remove stains layer by layer. Rinse thoroughly.
For the actual coffee maker be sure to never immerse it in water. Use a solution of 50% white vinegar to 50% cold water in the water reservoir to clean it out. Run the vinegar solution through the pot as if making a pot of coffee. This will clean out the internal parts safely. It may be needed to run two full pots of clean rinse water through the coffee maker to remove all traces of the vinegar. Be sure to use a filter each time to catch scale build up from hot water that will be knocked loose by the vinegar.
Do not clean any internal surfaces with bleach. Do not let the bleach come in contact with the vinegar solution. Wiping external surfaces with the bleach solution will remove stains by both the mechanical act of wiping and the stain whitening ability of the bleach. With 15 minutes of soaking parts and about five minutes of actual work, a 12 cup coffee maker can be made to look brand new.
The maximum cup size that can be accommodated by the coffee maker is 12 ounces.

The Cooks 12-cup coffee maker works by heating water to a specific temperature and then dripping it over ground coffee in a filter. The hot water extracts the flavor from the coffee grounds as it passes through, creating a brewed coffee that drips into a carafe below.
The best coffee maker is the 12-cup Cuisinart Brew Central DCC-1200. To obtain additional information, I highly suggest the following: www.foodservicewarehouse.com/coffee-shop/c16210.aspx.

I use 5 heaping tablespoons of Kona coffee and let the machine work its magic (Mr. Coffee-12 cup maker). I just recently became a coffee lover and was clueless--perhaps still am...but it tastes good to me:)
Finding a good 12-cup coffee maker is sometimes a difficult process. In order to brew 12 quality cups of coffee, the unit must be built well and have durable components. Some people may purchase a cheap coffee maker, enticed by the low price, only to find that the unit stops working within a few months. Good coffee makers are usually fairly expensive because they have been put together carefully, inspected and packaged well. Also they are built with materials designed to last and tend to be durable enough to live their warranty life or longer. Investing money in an inexpensive 12-cup coffee maker is somewhat risky - another option is to find a free unit. Local newspapers may be a valuable source for finding a free 12-cup coffee maker. Many people who purchase a good coffee maker but decide to upgrade later will often list their used coffee maker for giveaway. This is the best option for those who can’t afford to purchase a good coffee maker and wish to avoid investing money in a questionable or cheap unit. Also for those who live in or near larger cities, an ad may be posted on Craigslist.org requesting a quality used coffee maker for free. People who have an interesting trinket or an item they wish to trade may include that in the description to attract readers. As always, those who use Craigslist should never meet anyone at a home to pick up the coffee maker - meetings should always take place in a public location. Some coffee companies offer a free coffee maker with the purchase of 2 or more bags of coffee, however most of these companies usually only offer a single-cup or 4-cup coffee maker. One company that always offers a free 12-cup coffee maker is Gevalia. The electric unit they give away is valued at $100 and comes with a 1-year full warranty, so it is definitely an excellent freebie. For between $15 and $25, new customers may purchase 2-4 bags of coffee and receive the free coffee maker. Another site that posts all the current free 12-cup coffee maker promotions from various coffee companies is free-coffee-maker.org.
Clean the coffee maker with a coffee pot cleaner [following the directions on the label] which can be found at most Wal-Marts. I let the light blink for a couple of hours and then unplugged and then plugged the machine back in. NO MORE RED BLINKING LIGHT. Yeah. I don't know if this will work on all coffee makers but it worked on the Mr Coffee 12 cup programable coffee maker. Good luck.
