1. First, take a thick article of cloth or a feather duster and run it along the front of the blinds. Take care not to cause any damage by pressing too hard, or a trip to the store may be in the future. If those are not available, the upholstery brush from a vacuum is also suitable. Once the front has been thoroughly dusted, move on to the other side. At this point, do not pull the blinds back up or move on to something else; there is still more to do.

2. With the dust gone, it is time to attack any dirt that may be on the blinds. Take a towel and run it under the sink; do not overdo it with the water. Do not soak it, just cause it to become moist, or water could potentially get everywhere. This step is meant to remove any light traces of dirt that might be present on the blinds. If preferred, an anti-bacterial wipe would work just as well. As with in step one, be sure to wipe both the front and back of the blinds for maximum cleaning.

3. To prevent any dust from gathering up in the near future, rub a few laundry dryer sheets on the blinds. The dust will not be gone for good, nor is the method fool proof, but doing this will at least hold it back for a time.

When the time comes to give the home or apartment a good scrubbing and tidying, include the blinds. Not only will it keep the blinds looking fresh and clean, but one will feel more at ease, as well. To save time, have somebody help deal with the other windows, and the whole process will go by a lot faster.

Dust With a Soft Cloth

Most window blinds can collect dust on both sides of the slats. When you want to dust them, use a soft cloth that will pick up the dust without too much effort on your part. Some people prefer to use a duster that is round and made of feathers or long strings because it can clean the upper and lower slat at the same time. If the dust is being particularly stubborn about coming off, try making your cloth or duster slightly damp so that the dust will cling to them more readily.

Close Slats for Best Coverage

If you have wide slatted window blinds the easiest way to clean them is to close them first. The slats will create a solid surface that can be wiped down much the same way that you would wipe down a table or window. Spray cleaner on the blinds after you close them and you should be able to get them completely clean with a single swipe of your cloth. Be sure you concentrate on both sides of the blinds since they collect dirt on both sides. Open the slats once you are finished cleaning to see if there are any spots that may need to be touched up while the slats are open.

Regular Cleaning Makes it Easier

Since window blinds collect dirt so quickly, the job of cleaning them can become difficult very quickly. The best way to avoid spending all of your time trying to clean out the window blinds is to dust them every day or every other day. If the dirt is not allowed to collect on the blinds it will come off with very little effort. When window blinds are only cleaned once a month, they collect quite a lot of dirt that gets into all of the cracks and creases and can be tough to clean out.
