Hello Kitty has been a popular cartoon character since the mid 1970's. This adorable kitten can be found on toasters, televisions, clothing, jewelry, DVDs, school supplies, fashion accessories, and even cars. With Hello Kitty memorabilia so popular, of course girls are going to want to dress up as their favorite character on Halloween.
Luckily, making a Hello Kitty costume couldn't be easier. Using only seven supplies, it's possible to create a perfect portrayal of the famous cat. To get started, gather a red short-sleeve shirt, a blue jumper, a large red Hello Kitty bow, white cat ears, and white, yellow, and black face paint. The most difficult piece to find will be the bow. To find the bow, look online or visit your local Sanrio store. A regular bow can be substituted, but it might take away from the authenticity of the outfit.
To make the costume, put the jumper on over the red shirt. A denim jumper can be used if you can't find a regular blue one. If it's going to be cold, you can even throw on some white stockings to cover up your legs.
Once you are dressed, paint your entire face white, except for a small yellow circle on your nose. On your cheeks, paint three black whiskers. Hello Kitty's whiskers are not right next to her nose. They are set closer to the sides of her face. Next, put on the cat ears and fasten the bow next to your left ear. Your Hello Kitty transformation will then be complete.
If you are not the crafty type, there are ready-made Hello Kitty masks and costumes available at costume stores. Many of these masks are designed to look like large Hello Kitty heads that, when worn, will cover your entire head. While these masks are adorable, they can be a little uncomfortable. Before you splurge on an expensive mask, make sure you will be comfortable wearing it for an entire night. If not, it's better to paint your face and just turn yourself into Hello Kitty.
