Planters come in many different shapes and sizes. There are many specialized types, some of which require special considerations when used. A fence planter is one of these types. Designed to either sit on top of a fence or railing, or to hang between the slats of a fence, they do require some extra care to work at their full potential.
The problem is the location of the planter itself. Many fences and railings are adjacent to streets or sidewalks. The heat that emanates from the concrete or asphalt will work to dry the planter out faster than usual. Refracted sunlight will also cause some problems if there is light colored concrete underneath. The trick is to find a way to keep the soil moist so the plants will thrive.
The easiest solution is to water the plants as frequently as necessary. If this is not an option then you may want to consider purchasing a self watering fence planter. This is a planter that has a water reservoir in the bottom. The reservoir is filled with water and, due to evaporation, wicks up through the soil to the roots of the plants. It requires less maintenance than top-watering throughout the day.
If you have already purchased fence planters that are not self watering then it is possible to purchase the reservoirs and water level indicators separately and place them in the planters before filling them with soil.
Another option is to use a root watering system. This is most often a water container mounted on top of a hollow stake that is perforated at the tip. You fill the container, push the stake into the soil near the roots of the plants, and the water will slowly seep out over the course of the day as needed.
If none of these solutions are practical there is one other choice. You can purchase jars of a special type of artificial grain. These small white grains get mixed into the soil you are planting in. When you water the soil, the small beads will begin to soak up the water and hold it. Through osmosis, they will release the moisture back into the soil as needed. Unfortunately, this will ruin the soil in the planter and it will not be able to be used again.
Fence planters are a wonderful idea, but they require extra attention to make sure the plants that live in them remain well watered.

A fence stays up through a combination of sturdy materials, proper installation, and support structures. Deeply set posts in concrete provide stability, while horizontal rails connect and reinforce the panels. Additionally, regular maintenance, such as checking for rot or damage, helps ensure its longevity. Proper drainage and soil conditions also contribute to a fence's durability.
To ensure your dog stays safely in the yard, you can install a secure fence that is tall enough to prevent jumping or digging under. Additionally, consider using a leash or harness when outside with your dog, and provide plenty of mental and physical stimulation to reduce the likelihood of escape attempts. Regular training and supervision are also important to reinforce boundaries and keep your dog safe.
Water your mint plant consistently, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged. Typically, mint plants need to be watered every 2-3 days, but adjust based on the specific conditions of your plant and environment.

it depends on the size of the planter and what kind of growing medium, does the planter drain well ,is the plant indoors or outdoors you have to make sure the soil stays evenly moist at the first two to three inches if the plant is still small because thats where most of your root system is gonna be.be careful that you don't have stagnant water a the base of the planter because this will cause root rot and little gnats to infest your plant.
